BTCCSquare news:

UK consumer prices surged unexpectedly to 3.8% in July 2025, marking the highest inflation reading since early 2024. The acceleration defies earlier cooling trends and outstrips price growth in peer advanced economies.

Transport costs led the spike with airfares jumping 30.2% monthly during peak travel season. Stubborn food inflation persists at 4.9% annually, compounding the cost-of-living squeeze. Unlike the 2024 price surge driven by global supply shocks, current pressures stem from domestic factors including wage growth and labor market tightness.

The Bank of England faces renewed challenges in its inflation targeting mandate as services inflation remains entrenched. Real wages continue declining despite nominal pay increases, with consumers bearing the brunt through eroded purchasing power.
